POSITION:                               Director of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (Prior applicants still under consideration and need not reapply)
 
LOCATION:                               Holtsville, NY
 
PRINCIPAL FUNCTION: Orchestrates the strategic vision, administration, and instructional leadership for all Career, Technical, and Adult Education. This role drives the continuous evolution of curriculum and pedagogical excellence to ensure programs remain at the cutting edge of industry standards.
 
REPORTS TO: Associate Superintendent for Educational Services
 
SUPERVISES: All personnel driving the mission of Career, Technical, Adult, and Incarcerated Education Programs.
 
JOB GOAL:  To empower students within Career, Technical, Adult, and Incarcerated Education pathways with technical mastery and intellectual agility, ensuring they are fully prepared to disrupt the job market or excel in post-secondary institutions. The goal is to foster lifelong curiosity and maturation in students as both high-value workers and individuals. Additionally, this role serves the adult community by providing a robust suite of opportunities from English literacy and high school equivalency to technical upskilling and retraining tailored to modern marketplace demands.
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  Must hold New York State Certification as a School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA)
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Strategic Planning
  • Lead the Charge: Direct the creation of departmental strategic blueprints and support site-based planning across all Career, Technical, Adult, and Jail Education landscapes.
  • Policy Innovation: Recommend high-impact policies and programs designed to meet the evolving needs of a diverse student body.
  • Fiscal Stewardship: Architect budget recommendations and maintain rigorous oversight of local and state funding to fuel educational initiatives.
  • Talent Acquisition: Identify, recruit, and recommend top-tier talent to the Associate Superintendent to join the educational team.
  • Student Pathways: Design and refine workflows for student placement, evaluation, and reappraisal to maximize individual potential.
  • Future-Proofing: Propose long-term pivots and program adjustments to stay ahead of shifting job trends and economic needs.
  • Community Forecasting: Partner with local school districts to project enrollment trends and anticipate service requirements.
  • Asset Optimization: Oversee student enrollment and the strategic assignment of facilities to enhance the learning environment.
  • Grant Architecture: Advise and assist in securing local, State, and Federal funding streams.
  • Infrastructure Vision: Make data-informed recommendations for facility acquisitions and long-term space needs.
 
Operational Management
  • Human Capital Management: Oversee the administration and performance development of all department personnel.
  • Regulatory Harmony: Synchronize all funded programs (Federal, State, and local) to ensure seamless delivery.
  • Adaptive Leadership: Execute additional high-level functions as identified by the Associate Superintendent.
  • Standards Alignment: Formulate comprehensive programs that bridge NYS learning standards with real-world industry benchmarks.
  • Data Integrity: Manage reporting and documentation for state agencies.
  • Economic Analysis: Analyze labor market data to align training goals and technical retraining needs.
  • Experiential Learning: Direct the integration of work-experience programs within the school environment.
  • Facility Excellence: Supervise the operation and maintenance of the physical environments where learning happens.
 
Collaborative Interacting
  • Executive Presence: Serve as a key voice on the Administrative Council.
  • Chief Advocate: Translate the mission and objectives of the programs to the staff, and the public.
  • Strategic Liaison: Act as the primary bridge between the BOCES district, parent groups, and the New York State Education Department.
  • Partnership Cultivation: Build synergistic relationships with industry leaders, labor organizations, and community agencies to ensure training relevance.
  • Advisory Leadership: Establish and guide business advisory committees to inform program direction.
  • Research & Development: Coordinate innovative research and planning with regional and state partners.
  • Synergy & Continuity: Collaborate with fellow administrators to ensure organizational efficiency and seamless service delivery.
 
Impact Evaluation
  • Leadership Assessment: Conduct annual performance evaluations for Principals and key leadership staff.
  • Growth Trajectories: Recommend tenure and promotions for instructional staff based on excellence.
  • Program Audit: Maintain an ongoing cycle of program evaluation to recommend necessary shifts and expansions.
  • Student Outcomes: Continuously appraise the total curriculum in relation to student achievement and evolving needs.
  • Employment Readiness: Ensure all programs achieve the ultimate goal: providing students with the skills required for gainful employment and successful lives.
 
 Professional Vanguard
  • Legal Expertise: Maintain deep knowledge of the legal requirements governing specialized education programs.
  • National Engagement: Represent the agency in local, state, and national educational activities.
  • Culture of Learning: Identify staff development needs and curate high-quality in-service education.
  • Professional Growth: Active participation in professional associations to stay at the forefront of instructional advancement.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT & EVALUATION
  • Duration: Twelve months; salary and benefits established by the Board.
  • Evaluation: Conducted annually by the Associate Superintendent for Educational Services.
