ESBOCES is looking for an experienced leader who values diversity, equity and inclusion, and who has experience navigating multiple constituents, agencies and audiences to run successful programming in support of adult learners.  This critical position reports to the Director of Special Education, and serves as a leader within the department, agency, and the region to promote the development and delivery of special education services.

ASSIGNMENT:             Department of Special Education

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively promote diversity, equity and inclusion practices throughout the agency
  • Create, share and role model the mission and vision of the agency
  • Lead and supervise a diverse staff
  • Supervise and direct school operations in accordance with Board policies and regulations
  • Create and manage a warm, welcoming, and affirming work environment
  • Work with parents to develop an educational team for each student
  • Responsible to hire a diverse staff
  • Comply with all APPR requirements and collective bargaining agreements completing observations and evaluations
  • Provide strong collaborative leadership with an honest, transparent and inclusive style that supports high student outcomes and educational excellence
  • Build trusting relationships with staff and students
  • Establish and maintain a safe and secure learning environment
  • Work with component school districts to develop comprehensive plans for our students
  • Develop professional development plans to implement strengths and offset weaknesses for all staff
  • Maintain an active Crisis Prevention Intervention certification and provide needed trainings
  • Develop action plans related to Strategic Planning and Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity
  • Extensive knowledge in Part 200 Regulations
  • Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to high achievement, social-emotional, and whole child development of all students
  • Knowledge and experience with Next Generation Standards instruction and assessments as it pertains to special education
  • Knowledge of graduation requirements and data collection

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Continuously engage with a myriad of professional development and self-improvement practices
  • Assist Principal with all operations of the school building
  • Work as part of the leadership team to create a warm, welcoming, and affirming work environment
  • Conduct observations and evaluations for all staff
  • Build trusting relationships with staff and students
  • Assist in resolving student disciplinary issues
  • Assist with the health and safety of the building operations
  • Collaborate with Principal on needed professional development for all staff
  • Serve as a resource in curriculum, assessment, and instruction
  • Work with component school districts in planning for our students and attend CSE meetings
  • Maintain an active Crisis Prevention Intervention certification and provide needed training to staff
  • Create, share, and role model the mission and vision of the agency
  • Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to high achievement, social-emotional, and whole child development of all students
